2/9/19 to 2/13/19 Sax-Zim Bog, Duluth, MN: Hey, we heard there was an Arctic Vortex up north so it sounded like the place to be. It was a fun Valentine's Day celebration! (Alesches' Accommodations was wonderful and is highly recommended. Thanks so much, Cindy and Mark!) Braving -30 degrees and a blizzard, we caught all sorts of goodies, including the Great Gray Owl below. (Ravens were calling and this seemed to draw the owl's attention.) Also: Canada Jay (Gray Jay), Boreal Chickadee , and a very distant Northern Goshawk . Click on NEXT PAGE below for more images from this trip.

2/9/19 to 2/13/19 Sax-Zim Bog, Duluth, and Two Harbors, MN: Bohemian Waxwings ! Many a time we have searched Cedar Waxwing flocks, hoping to see one there. In the midst of a blizzard, we found a flock of 200+ (and left all our car doors open in the excitement - thus accumulating a foot of snow inside!) What gorgeous birds and we were thrilled to see them in whatever weather.

2/9/19 to 2/13/19 Sax-Zim Bog, Duluth, and Two Harbors, MN: More Pine Grosbeak (m,f) images! We were surprised to get any images as they munched on breakfast in the blizzard and the wind whipped the snow about our equipment. Also: Pine Siskin , Hairy Woodpecker , Wild Turkey , and Black-capped Chickadee .
