6/14/2016 thru 7/1/2016   We traveled to Las Vegas, NV  -  on to Lone Pine, CA -  then to San Diego, CA  -
and to Santa Cruz Island, CA (for the endemic Island Scrub-Jay) -  up to San Francisco, CA - and finally out
to Denver, CO .  It was a great trip to see family and we also picked up some life birds for us .
6/22/2016  Santa Cruz Island, CA :   A beautiful spot an hour's boat ride out of Ventura.  We found a banded
endemic Island Scrub-Jay immediately but had to hike a bit to find some unbanded individuals.  Also,
Song Sparrow.  There were a number of endemic subspecies and a few other birds as well but they didn't
come out to play.  We enjoyed the Humpbacked Whales and Common Dolphins with young ones.  Sunrises
from Amelia Island, FL in May.
6/25+27/2016  Palo Alto, CA :   A Ridgway's Rail (old California Clapper Rail) came out for us in beautiful
light and continued to wander into the marshlands.  Quite a treat!  Also, a male Mallard; and then we had
another treat watching adult and juvenile Cliff Swallows snatching webs and other goodies from a roof
where some others were nesting.  Also, A California Towhee , an American Coot , and a Song Sparrow .
6/25+27/2016  Palo Alto, CA :   Red-tailed Hawk (stretching), Oak Titmouse , Lesser Goldfinch , Bushtit , and
a Bullock's Oriole .
