11/8-11/2012 A trip to Xi'an, China. Xian is the ancient cradle of civilization in China. Prehistoric excavations are taking place alongside dynasty digs dating over 5,000 years ago. Many tombs of various emperors (including that of the first emperor) are situated in the area as well as the famous Army of Terra Cotta Warriors. We also did some hiking at Hua Shan, a sacred Taoist Mountain, (ouch on the knees and calf muscles!) where steps and ladders have been carved in the rock. Xian itself is quite modern, had a wonderful park devoted to China's poets, and also bore the remnants of a medieval wall and had a fantastic museum. We took in a dinner show about the Tang dynasty that was fun.

11/8-11/2012 Xi'an, China: The Terra Cotta Warriors of the first emperor were also on display at the Shaanxi Historical Museum in town along with prehistoric relics. Wonderful museum! Click on NEXT PAGE below for more on Xi'an.

11/18/2012 Anting Town with two nearby Ginkgo Tree Parks,Shanghai area, China: The highlight was the 1,200 year old tree with its own little park. We believe it is considered the oldest tree in Shanghai. When one thinks of the history it has seen beneath its branches!

11/17/2012 Binjiang Forest Park, China: Always pleasant, we enjoyed the tranquility of an early morning birding in one of the less cultivated parks in Shanghai.

11/18/2012 Guyi Garden, Shanghai area, China: One of the few old gardens left in Shanghai, Guyi Garden is a credit to the Ming Dynasty estates. Very creative and peaceful (until the crowds come), it has walkways, caves, waterfalls, pools, and old-style buildings.
