| 6/16/2012 Binjiao Forest Park, Shanghai, China: Nice weather allowed an outing at a park in Shanghai. Quite a few Chinese Hwamei were seen, but they shyly flitted into the undergrowth when shown any interest. Juvenile Long-tailed Shrikes were numerous as well. Also a Red-billed Starling was feeding upon the grassy lawns and a Chinese Bulbul was hunting in the trees. Many other birds were sighted but appeared to be very skittish. |
| 6/16/2012 Chongming Island, China: The chicks have been hatching at the herony. Having often photographed herons feeding their young in the USA, it was interesting to see how wary the herons here in China were - even the Black-crowned Night-Herons which we have in the USA. We felt that we were definitely interfering with the care of the young as the parents would not return while the camera was focused on the nest. Thus we took great care to snap some quick images and move on, disturbing each nest briefly so the parents could return and see to their chicks. Shown: Chinese Pond Heron , Black-Crowned Night-Heron , Eastern Cattle Egret , Great White Egret , Chinese Bulbul , and finally a juvenile White Wagtail. |
| 6/24-25/2012 Shanghai, China: Chinese Hwamei were having young in one of the parks and almost lost a chick to the deep waters of a pond. The little one had to be helped back up over a deep step into the woods to its parents. Another adult sat in a tree and sang its beautiful song. Also shown: a juv. Common Moorhen , a juv. Barn Swallow , a juv. Long-tailed Shrike , and a Vinous-throated Parrotbill. |
| 6/29/2012 Shanghai, China: Century Park allowed a study of Eurasian Blackbird juveniles, an acrobatic Chinese Bulbul, an Azure-winged Magpie, and White Wagtail juveniles. |
