10/13/2010 Had to get out in that beautiful sunshine: From a brief outing around our house in northern Delaware: An amazing male Black-throated Blue Warbler landed overhead and started preening in the sun. The Ruby-crowned Kinglet decided the shade was preferable but still posed nicely. A Red-breasted Nuthatch glanced up briefly along with a Yellow-rumped Warbler , a newly arrived White-throated Sparrow , a Swainson's Thrush, and a Downy Woodpecker. (A female Black-throated Blue showed up as well, but wouldn't come out to play in good light.) The bees and skippers are always fun to watch.

Weekend 10/16+17/2010 What beautiful weather to bird northern Delaware: A Northern Flicker put on a show along with a Hairy Woodpecker. Then a Clay-colored Sparrow showed up briefly and could not be relocated. A Chipping Sparrow is shown for comparison. A Black-capped Chickadee came close (uneven bib and whiter wings, but up for discussion!) Also shown: American Goldfinch , a friendly Swamp Sparrow and a White-crowned Sparrow flock. A White-breasted Nuthatch storing food, a Northern Mockingbird , a Red-bellied Woodpecker matching the red leaves behind, a Song Sparrow and Palm Warbler , a Northern Cardinal and House Finch , a Yellow-rumped Warbler , and an unbalanced Gray Catbird trying for berries are all shown with a House Sparrow thrown in for good measure. What a party!

A few pics from Ohio trip back on 9/9/10: Blackpoll Warbler , Magnolia Warbler , and Yellow-rumped Warbler.
