| 12/26/2019 to 1/13/2020 We had a grand trip out west via Colorado and Nevada to see family for the holidays (birding a bit on the side), then went on to chase some rarities. We searched for the Rose-ringed Parakeet in Bakersfield and the Garganey being seen in CA, the Ruddy Ground-dove and Rosy-faced Lovebird in AZ, and the Black Rosy-Finch and the Common Crane in NM. It was great to visit these spots and we were able to see all of these special birds except the Common Crane (which was like looking for a Waldo amidst the huge number of Sandhill Cranes)! | 1/7/20 Phoenix, AZ: Our first stop was outside Phoenix where a Ruddy Ground-Dove flock continues to be reported. Hard to find until a very sweet lady told us where to look - and then they were still hard to find among the other doves there! Also: Ladder-backed Woodpecker , Indian Peafowl , Inca Dove and Verdin . |

| 1/8/20 Phoenix, AZ: Our next stop was a park in Phoenix where a Rosy-faced Lovebird flock is regularly seen. We were thrilled when they showed up in good light and even came down to the water for a bath. What cuties. Also: Vermilion Flycatcher (m), Gila Woodpecker (m,f), and Great-tailed Grackle (m,f). |
