| 7/10/09 At Brandywine River SP: A Wood Thrush pair with 3 chicks - eyes still shut! Awww... Mom was so attentive. (She broods while male provides 2/3 of the food.) See NEXT PAGE for more! A Wood Duck (f) with 3 youngsters in tow was sighted along a Red-tailed Hawk, a Field Sparrow, and a Gold Finch. |
| July 11 Fairhill Park, MD: A White-eyed Vireo would not sit still but the Warbling Vireo (we think) was far worse at posing. A female Blue Grosbeak was still gathering nesting material and this Green Heron was being harassed by a comrade who wanted the pond to himself. |
| 7/14/09 Had to go back and check on the Wood Thrush chicks. Lighting was random depending on rays of sunlight shooting through the leaves. Everyone looks healthy tho Dad's trips seemed a bit more hectic! |
| 7/17+18/09 Deal Island, Blackwater Swamp, MD were very cool. Our early efforts afforded us a shot of a Virginia Rail and its chick (six ft away) - both stuck around for all of two seconds! We were excited to spy a Great Horned Owl but were in awe when a Peregrine Falcon appeared and started dive-bombing it. It was amazing to get the two in one frame. The owl flew off quickly! A Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrow family was popping up in the reeds. Other sightings included a Red-winged Blackbird, Marsh Wren, Osprey family, and a juv. Brown-headed Nuthatch - on the ground of all places. |
