| 9/3 thru 9/22/2015 We flew into San Francisco, CA and, after visiting with family, traveled up the coast to Crescent City, CA near the Oregon border. While we birded mostly on the coast, we did venture inland to such places as Pinnacles National Park and the amazing redwood forests found in northern California. One great day was spent on a pelagic trip with Shearwater Journeys (Thanks Debi and all!) watching whales and seeing tons of birds, many of which we don't get to see on the East Coast. |
| 9/3/15 Inland near San Francisco, CA, we looked for Lawrence's Goldfinch and found a flock taking a bath on private property. We remained on the street, waiting for them to land in the nearby brush and were rewarded with some decent looks. We also caught a California Thrasher , a California Quail (f), a California Towhee , and a Phainopepla that was feeding on berries. Also: Western Bluebird , distant Yellow-billed Magpie , and White-throated Swifts along with a Wild Turkey. |

| 9/3/15 Near San Francisco, CA: Western Gull (one with a sea urchin), Wandering Tattler , Vaux's Swift , Pelagic Cormorant , Marbled Godwit , Heermann's Gull , Brown Pelican scene , Brewer's Blackbird , and a Black Turnstone blending with the kelp on the beach. |
