10/13-16/12 Fukuoka, Mt. Unzen, and the south island, Japan:  Flying in over Mt. Fuji, we headed to
Isahaya via train and met up with our bird guide, John Andrew Wright  - thanks, John! - who zipped us all
over the area in his car.  Mt, Unzen NP was beautiful with great views.  We explored the area around
Kabashima Lighthouse and the bay area mud flats.  When the tide came in, it came quickly and we were
inundated with shorebirds and egrets.
10/17/12 Just outside Fukuoka, Japan:  Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Museum.  Huge and ancient trees
decorated the Shrine.  Many shops led up to the entrance filled with fascinating wares.  The museum
allowed no pictures but had some interesting exhibits.
10/27/12 Shanghai, China:  Sunrise at the coast, then a trip to the Shanghai Museum in the People's
Square, downtown Shanghai.  Afterwards, a stroll through nearby Fuxing Park, not far from the museum.
10/13-16/12 Fukuoka, south island, Japan:  Ohari Park (4pics) was a great place for bird photography as
they had a bit of a heronry there with an abundance of water.  The Botanical Gardens (3pics) was
cultivated but had some wild spots and had a nice walk.  Tochoji Temple, with one of the largest seated
Buddhas in Japan, was near our hotel and was a very peaceful place on a rainy day.
