| Shanghai is a huge and very modern city. The parks are very safe and, though cultivated, they do harbor birds! Outside the city are numerous green spots to take day trips. During our first month here, we were obviously quite busy getting settled but we did manage to get outside with the camera - we are loving it! |
| 1/14/12 Yangcheng Nature Reserve, China: A Red-crowned Crane pair put on a show. Wish the lighting had been better. Having never seen this bird or this display - it was quite a treat. And there is nothing prettier than a Mandarin Duck! |

| 1/14/12 Yangcheng Nature Reserve, China: Great place for birds but they are building the area quickly. It was a dark, rainy day but we drank in the sights with gusto! (We wandered a bit and got there late but saw a lot on the way. One should spend the night if coming from Shanghai.) The Red-crowned Cranes (below) we saw were in the surround area so one might want to explore some of the back roads. They sure put on a show for us! Shown here: Common Kingfisher , Common Hoopoe (nothing common about it!), Black-faced Bunting, Black Swan , Great White Egret , Little Egret study , Light-vented Bulbul , Azure-winged Magpie , and some distant Northern Lapwings. A lorry rumbled past and scared them off. |
