3/5/11 Meandering around Supawna Meadows NWR, NJ and the various waterways in the area, we got to see a Sandhill Crane up-close and personal! While the crane was the only bird that let us get close, there was a lot of activity. Other sights include: Northern Pintail , Mute Swan , Northern Harrier with a catch , Tundra Swan (flt), Green-winged Teal pair who were rather nervous , Gadwall flock, Downy Woodpecker , and an American Wigeon in flight (with some N. Pintails) and a distant pair swimming. |
3/9/11 Denver Zoo - Lions and Tigers and Bears - Oh my! |
3/10-12/11 Denver, CO: A relative's operation went well and we were able to explore most mornings. In and around Denver and the close mountains: Found two Great Horned Owl nests (wish we could stay and watch the action!), Western Scrub-Jay, Northern Flicker (Red-shafted - two were chasing each other about!), American Kestrel , Mallard , Belted Kingfisher , Red-tailed Hawk , Curved-billed Thrasher , American Magpie (one was carrying either food or nesting material - gorgeous birds!) and scenes from the area, including a White Pelican flock. |
