| 5/20/20 to 5/29/20 Amelia Island, FL: We were VERY CAREFUL (kept our distance and didn't stay long) on all nesting birds. PLEASE do not disturb. A Wilson's Plover study along with an unusual (for this time of year) American Avocet in breeding plumage. Then: Least Tern pairs were beginning to nest. We found a Ruby-throated Hummingbird nest and a Red-bellied Woodpecker checking on a Downy Woodpecker nest. He got shooed away by the parents coming to feed the young ones, one of which peeked out for us. Also: Northern Cardinal and a distant Mississippi Kite which is always fun to see. |
