10/24/09 We birded around the Pike Creek area in the rain thinking it was too dark for photography when
we saw this wonderful imm. Red-tailed Hawk who thought nothing of us training our lens at him!
10/25/09 We headed down to Conowingo Dam, MD for sunrise and to watch the Bald Eagles fishing. As two
eagles fought over a fish, the fish was lost and went flying through the air. (Wonder what the poor thing
was thinking!) Then we headed back to Delaware to see sparrows: White-crowned Sparrow , Swamp
Sparrow , Field Sparrow - and an American Goldfinch and lots of Yellow-rumped Warblers .
Week of 10/25/09 A few pictures from the past week: Lots of Yellow-rumped Warbler images! A Downy and
and a White-throated Sparrow too. Background colors were often beautiful!
11/1/09 Whoa - plenty of rain! But we went hiking anyway. When the sun did come out briefly, we caught a
Gray Catbird in berries (+ some mug shots) and a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Also, a White-throated Sparrow
and a Song Sparrow posed. Lots of beautiful berries about; now if the birds would only land there!
This isn't the greatest picture
but what an expression!
11/3+4/09 Coming back from a trip allowed a couple hours at Conowingo Dam - always a treat. Bald Eagles
were cruising, fishing, and stealing! One of them grabbed some leaves off the top of a tree and looked
like it was gathering nesting material! (Paused at a gas station at sunrise and took the full moon, a House
Finch , a Dark-eyed Junco , a Chipping Sparrow , and gorgeous berries with the fire of autumn behind.)
