| 9/28/09 Couldn't pass up this fantastic Red-tailed Hawk who did not seem to care one whit that anyone had a camera trained on him - very unusual! He seemed hungry at first, but then sat atop a post and preened. While he was hanging out, a House Finch and a Mourning Dove showed up, unperturbed that there was a Red-tail searching for breakfast. Suppose squirrel is the food of choice? |
| 9/29 The glorious light this morning together with the knowledge that migration was going on while most of us were inside was maddening! It is called Migrastuckinsidiophobia. SO...got outside and took these in about half an hour! While European Starlings are not well-like, they are still stunning birds! A Belted Kingfisher showed up, studied the camera nervously, and took off again along with a White-breasted Nuthatch , a Dickcissel of all things, an American Redstart , a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher who wouldn't sit still (of course), a House Wren who got up-close and personal, and a Northern Parula . Not a bad little outing! |
| 10/1 Another morning with glorious light couldn't be missed. WOW! What a morning it was! Delaware was hopping. A Black-throated Green Warbler , a Blackburnian Warbler , Eastern Bluebird flock , a Downy Woodpecker , a Hairy Woodpecker , and a Red-bellied Woodpecker all showed up. Then, a Blue-headed Vireo pops up and starts eating berries! Also shown: a Black-throated Blue Warbler (who wouldn't stick around), a Carolina Chickadee , a Chipping Sparrow , and a Tufted Titmouse who wanted the big juicy caterpillar all to itself. So much more was missed. This was in 11/2 hours - WOW! |
| 10/3+4 We hit a misty Conowingo, MD and some pretty DE areas: A Red-bellied Woodpecker blended with the red leaves behind it. A Carolina Wren was watchful but hung out with us. A Common Yellowthroat was feeding along the bushes. Caught a Great Blue Heron interaction along with Double-crested Cormorants at the dam. A Black-throated Green Warbler showed up. The morning dew offered marvelous pics! |
