| 2/1 - 2/11/2017 Costa Rica: We had a fantastic trip to Costa Rica - the people were lovely and the scenery was gorgeous. We traveled to Monteverde (1 day down to Pacific Coast, also Santa Elena, Paradise Reserve - Thanks, Jorge!), then to Dave and Dave's at La Virgen - Thanks, Dave and Dave! (and La Selva), and on to Poas Volcano and La Paz. The hummingbirds and trogons and toucans were awesome! It will take a while to go throught the images. | 2/1/2017 Costa Rica: Monteverde: First morning found us focused on a fallen berry tree where many birds gathered predawn: the beautiful Emerald Toucanet , Prong-billed Barbet , Summer Tanager , and Slaty-backed Nightingale-thrush . Luckily, we caught some of these birds later in better light. |
| 2/1/2017 Costa Rica: Monteverde: On the first morning of the first day, it was rather low light for hummingbirds so we tried to catch them perched until the light was better: Violet Saberwing , what we believe is a Striped-tailed Hummingbird (3 pics), Purple-throated Mountain-gem at feeder and female, Green Violetear , and Green-crowned Brilliant (m,f,juv). |
| 2/1/2017 Costa Rica: Monteverde: The first morning of Day 1: After visiting the hummingbird feeders, we found an Azure-hooded Jay flock following the edge of an army ant swarm. We were told this was quite a treat to see - and it was! Also: Yellowish Flycatcher , Slate-throated Redstart , Three-striped Warbler , Slaty-backed Nightingale-thrush , Grey-cheeked Thrush , and Common Chlorospingus . Then: A few birds we caught the first day without the best focus but still of interest: Spotted Treecreeper , Highland Tinamou , and Ochraceous Wren . (Hopefully we caught some of these better later in the trip.) |
