7/12/2014  Least Tern colony, Amelia Island, Fl: Still monitoring the Least Tern colony.  Please keep dogs
leashed and away from the colony as the parents have a fit when a dog  passes by.  Thanks so much!  We
also had to keep our distance today as the parents seemed agitated. (For more pics, click NEXT PAGE
below.)
7/18/2014  South of Amelia Island, FL: The White Pelican flock was still at the lagoon with many other
species.  (See more pics from this area by clicking NEXT PAGE below.)  We are surprised there are still
fish to be had there!  There were Osprey , Wood Storks , many Egrets and even Black Skimmers.
7/22/2014  Least Tern colony, Amelia Island, Fl: We had to go back to see if there were any new chicks.
We had a family that actually approached us with their little ones.  There were a number of adults with
fish that appear to be wanting to adopt the newly hatched.  The chicks seem to know who their parents
were and appeared to be harassed by these well-intentioned adults.  Perhaps the parents of our family
thought being close to us would keep these other adults away.  It did seem to work.  As it was, we were
thrilled with the little group that didn't mind having us around.  (For more pics, click NEXT PAGE below.)
7/22/2014  Huguenot Memorial Park, FL: (Yes, again.)  We had to see the Royal Tern young all grown up
and taking flight.   Laughing Gulls were trying to steal the fish and had their own young still begging.
Also a distant Great White Heron , Black Skimmer family (they had 2 juv), and Great Blue Heron.
7/28/2014  Least Tern colony, Amelia Island, Fl:  About 20 youngsters were counted when a dog went by
(luckily on a leash!) and the little ones ran to hide. (There certainly may be more as they are difficult to
see and there are sand hollows to hide in.)  Some chicks have grown and are stretching wings in
anticipation of flight.  (For more pics, click NEXT PAGE below.)
