9/28/thru 10/4/12 Part of our trip to Sabah, Borneo was spent with Jason and John (at
http://horukuru.blogspot.com) who were both wonderful birders and guides.  Thanks so much, guys!
(They also organize the yearly Borneo Bird Festival which looked wonderful but we had to miss due to
travel.)  We birded some in Sepilok Reserve, on the Kinabatangan River, Mt. Kinabalu, and the coast
near Kota Kinabalu.  Each place was fabulous!
10/2,3/12  Mt. Kinabalu, Borneo:  Thanks to our guides, we got to see a male Whitehead's Trogon along
with a Sunda Laughing-thrush flock , a Sunda Bush Warbler , a Temminck's Sunbird . an Ochraceous
Bulbul , a nesting Mountain Imperial Pigeon , a Chestnut-hooded Laughing-thrush flock , nesting
Bornean Swiftlets (note green gloss), a Bornean Treepie which was kind enough to come out and give us
a look, and the ever elusive Bornean Whistling Thrush .  Also: Mountain Leaf Warbler , Chestnut-crested
Yuhina ,  Eyebrowed Jungle Flycatcher , Grey-chinned Minivet (m), White-eyed Shrike-babbler (formerly,
Blyth's Shrike Babbler), and a Ashy Drongo in the morning mists.
10/2,3/12  Mt. Kinabalu, Borneo: A Black-sided Flowerpecker pair (Bornean Flowerpecker)  was sighted
on the mountain along with a "calling" Golden-naped Barbet (note the puffy throat sacs).  At one point we
were surrounded by nine Barbets!
10/2,3/12  Mt. Kinabalu, Borneo: Indigo Flycatcher (WOW) , Little Cuckoo Dove , Flavescent Bulbul
(formerly, Pale-faced Bulbul ), Mountain Black-eye , and a White-throated Fantail in the dawn mists.
(Luckily, the fog cleared later!)
