7/22-26/2012 A trip to the Tibetan Highlands via Xining, Datong, Qinghai Hu, and on to Tsaka (Caka) offered us some wonderful views and some great birds. A big thanks to Tang Jun (chinatibettravel.net), our guide who has amazing eyesight! Shown: A Hume's Short-toed Lark study with various individuals. (Google images and our China reference book are rather poor sources so discussions are welcome!) |
7/22-26/2012 The Tibetan Highlands via Xining, Datong, Qinghai Hu, and on to Tsaka (Caka) gave us looks at a Rusty-necklaced Partridge and family (at least 3 chicks) and a Black Redstart family with at least 2 juveniles being fed. Also, a Beautiful Rosefinch, a Greater Short-toed Lark (with the distinctive black on neck), and a Brown Accentor who had hungry mouths to fill. The next to last pic appears to be of a juventile accentor. |
7/22-26/2012 The Tibetan Highlands via Xining, Datong, Qinghai Hu, and on to Tsaka (Caka) took us into desert lands where we saw a Rufous-tailed Shrike family (didn't catch the adult), a Ruddy Shelduck flock, a White Wagtail , an illusive Mongolian Ground-jay flock with young, a Common Redshank flock , and a Citrine Wagtail which refused to get into better light for us. It was still great fun to see it hunt the banks of a waterway and catch a dragonfly. |
7/22-26/2012 Xinging, China: A brief trip up a nearby mountain yielded a Meadow Bunting , a Grey-headed Woodpecker , a Godlewski's Bunting , a Brown Accentor , a 1st year Pied Wheatear , a Red-billed Chough flock , a Hill Pigeon flock , and a grey-capped Greenfinch. A lovely place to have breakfast! |
